Should I repair my deck or replace it?
If the frame underneath — posts, joists, and connections — is solid, repair is usually the smart money: new boards, railings, and stain on good bones. If the structure itself is rotting or pulling away from the house, replacement is safer. We’ll tell you straight which one you need at the estimate.
How often does a wood deck need restaining?
In central Illinois weather, every 2–3 years. If water stops beading on the boards, it’s time. Regular restaining is the difference between a deck that lasts 10 years and one that lasts 20.
How long does a new deck take to build?
Most residential decks run several days to a week of build time depending on size, height, and weather. Repairs and restains often wrap in a day or two. You’ll get a schedule with your written quote.
Is composite really worth the extra cost?
If you plan to stay in the home 5+ years, often yes — you skip a restain every couple of years, and composite carries long warranties. If budget is the priority, pressure-treated wood gets you more square footage today. We’ll price both so you can decide with real numbers.
My railing is wobbly — is that a small job?
Usually, yes. Loose railings, a soft board or two, or a sagging step are commonly phone-quotable repairs at our standard rate — $150 for the first hour, $75 each additional. Call and describe it; we’ll tell you honestly.
